We have learned the story of Monkey Puzzle, and in PE this week the children explored different ways of moving by pretending to be all the animals from the story. We slithered like the snake, stomped like the elephant and glided like the parrot.

This week in Nursery, the Fox Cubs also began the Balanceability programme learning to develop their gross motor skills by using balance bikes. See more photos

Reception had a wonderful visit from Reverend Dawn who introduced us to her special robes and explained about the change in colours through the year. We loved the rainbows and seashells!

We have been busy listening well and beginning to retell the story of The Little Red Hen using props and actions. View more photos on our gallery page

Year 1 News

The Rabbits have been learning about Neil Armstrong and used role play to help them to remember some key facts about his mission to the moon. ‘Astronaut training’ was undertaken by all to see if Year 1 had the skills needed to take their own moon trip! They tested how strong their lungs are by blowing paper through a straw and then tested their dexterity by trying to put pegs into a board and doing some threading while wearing astronaut gloves. Balance and core strength training involved walking on stilts and balancing on space hoppers.

All the Rabbits passed their training and they put on their space helmets ready to board Apollo 11. After launching into space they took their momentous first steps on the moon! While there they collected moon rocks to bring back to Earth to investigate.  More photos can be viewed in our gallery

This week in science, the Badgers have been closely examining rocks learning to classify them. They have also been reviewing the different uses of rocks in their Rocks, Relic and Rumbles lesson. Latin lessons continue and we have used clues to identify the Latin mottos used by different organisations.

This week Woodpeckers have been studying the different types of mountains found around the world. By looking at the shape of the mountains we were able to sort them in to one of five types. We also considered how we can show the height and shape of a mountain by using contour lines. We saw how the spacing between contour lines showed how steep the incline is and decided to create our own 3D mountains using layers of card to represent the contours.

We have also been practising our times tables on Time Table Rock Stars and using a set of beautiful new dictionaries and thesauruses to enhance our written work - see how they captivated us in the photos below!  More photos

Forest School News

There has been lots of active, physical play in Forest School this week! The children are so imaginative in their ideas for play and what they want to create and it is a privilege to listen to their conversations and observe their interactions. They are learning so much about collaborative working, compromise and conflict resolution while having a lot of fun and enjoying being outdoors!
