Week ending 4th November 2022

Children in Need

{alt_tag}

BBC’s Children In Need is coming on Friday 18th November and at Monksmoor we are dusting off our dancing shoes for an all-day danceathon with all proceeds going towards this year’s appeal.

Children and staff alike are excited to be spending the day strutting their stuff to a range of different beats with a host of staff lined up to be performing their very favourite dance all in aid of a very worthy cause.

For a suggested donation of £1, children are encouraged to come along dressed in disco wear or party clothes and take part in the day’s activities.

To add a little party fun to the day’s proceedings, we are asking for donations to go in our Children In Need props box and we would like to collect anything you have that might brighten up our young people’s dance session - this might include unwanted sunglasses, wigs, sparkly jackets, scarves, hats, photo booth props or blow-up guitars and toy microphones.

We will update you with details of our Just Giving Page this week and watch out for previews and updates on our social media pages.

Thank you as ever for all your support - we are hoping to raise lots of money for Children In Need and to make sure the children have a memorable day too.

Nursery News

Image[8]

It was great to welcome the Fox Cubs back to Nursery this week and what a busy week it has been.  We have loved exploring the number three and going on searches for groups of three around school.

We have also practised our fine motor skills and pencil control by drawing around each other with big chalks and by building 3D towers with the construction shapes.

Reception News

This week in reception we have explored the story 'Rosie's Walk'.  We have used lots of exciting vocabulary and drama, and have begun to collect fox facts for a class book.  Continuing the animal theme, we have enjoyed treating a variety of ailments and caring for our furry and feathered friends in the vet role-play area.

Year 1 News

Year 1 have been enjoying exploring the new role play rocket area this week.  Some of the children have had some amazing trips to the moon - just like Neil Armstrong.  We have also been painting pictures of aliens and have tried hard to add lots of detail.

Year 2 News

Year 2 have started a new unit in English this half-term and have been enjoying writing their own versions of an interview with Neil Armstrong! In maths we have started work on addition and subtraction using our knowledge of place value. In science we have been learning about floating and sinking - we especially enjoyed our floating EGG-speriment! We used the term "density" to explore how salt changed the density of the water and eventually made the egg float!  See our photo gallery here.

Year 4 News

A new term and whole lot of new learning!  Woodpeckers started their new English unit this week.  Based on a poem about the flow and movement of a river we have been discovering the “shapes” of the poem by looking closely at the vocabulary choices of the author.

Forest School News

During Reception's Forest School session we read 'Room on the Broom' by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.  The children then had the opportunity to hunt around Forest School for the lily, cone, twig and bone that the characters in the story needed to make their 'magnificent broom'!

Year 4 had the opportunity to use a mallet to hammer nails into a piece of wood. Great teamwork (and bravery!) was seen in this activity as one child often held the nail while another used the mallet. They then wound wool around the nails to create a spider web. Fabian amazed us by hammering the nails into a heart shape without the use of a guide or template.

Star of the Week

Well done to all our stars for being a shining example
in faith, love, self-control and patience.
