Children in Need Dance-athon

Thank you to everyone who donated! We completed a 7 hour danceathon for BBC Children in Need with a fundraising target of £500. Together, we smashed that target and raised an amazing £640!

Thanks to our professional helpers and fun-makers: Emily, Nicola, Jo and Leighton of Epicxtras and Louise of Dancing Dinocorns and thank you to Richie Anderson for our message of support!

Nursery News

Such a busy week as we celebrated both Nursery Rhyme week and The Scarecrows' Wedding in Nursery. The children enjoyed dressing up and working together as a team to make a scarecrow. We also got ready for Children In Need by learning some new dances.

Laura and Tracey from Ashby Fields Dental Practice visited Nursery to teach the children all about how to brush their teeth and about how to choose healthy snacks. We thoroughly enjoyed the visit and the giant toothbrush was a big hit!

Reception News

In PE we continue to work on following directions, gross motor skills and focusing on coordination through scarf dancing. We're progressing well and our confidence is growing; we might even use some of our new skills on Friday during the Children in Need Danceathon!

Year 1 News

In year 1 we have been making the chassis of our moon buggies. We followed a given criterion including making it look shiny, adding a seat for the astronaut and attaching a flag. We thought carefully about the resources we were going to use and the tools we would need. Next week we are looking forward to completing them by making a wheel and axle.

Year 2 News

Year 2 have been learning about online safety in Computing this half-term. We have talked about sharing information online, how to keep safe and who to talk to if we see something that makes us worried. Last week we created our own virtual display board to share our work in a safe space - the children were very proud of their work!

Year 3 News

Badgers have been continuing research and sketches of greenhouses in design technology. In science, the class made metamorphic rocks using milk, dark and white chocolate and investigated how temperature influences crystal size - linking this to intrusive and extrusive igneous rocks. The Badgers also made mocktails and wrote the recipes for their independent write.

Year 4 News

The Woodpeckers' science and topic lessons have drawn on our understanding of ‘changes of state’, and we have had great fun turning cream into butter and creating our very own water cycle ecosystems.

In our HeartSmart lesson we scientifically proved that we are all unique and special, by comparing some simple measurements and observations of our friends.

Remembrance Sunday

Charlotte was chosen to represent her Brownie unit and asked to lay the wreath during Sunday's remembrance parade in Daventry Town. Her family and all our staff are very proud of her as she undertook the job and responsibility with pride. Well done Charlotte.

Road Safety Week

We had a special visit this week for road safety week. We were lucky to have a visit from the police and the fire service who spoke to the children about road safety particularly around our school. We then practised remembering to STOP, LOOK AND LISTEN before crossing roads, as well as listening to adults who help us to stay safe. We also talked about how to be safe and careful walking through car parks. We’re looking forward to spotting the children putting it into practise!

World Nursery Rhyme Week

Nursery Rhyme Week has arrived at Monksmoor and on Monday we dressed up to mark the occasion. We have learned The Big Ship Sails, B-I-N-G-O, Twinkle Twinkle, Five Speckled Frogs and Once I Caught A Fish Alive.

Preparing for the Holy Cross Christmas Tree Festival

You might have been told by your child that one of our recent activities has been making an angel to display at Holy Cross Church for the Christmas Tree Festival in December. Led by Mrs Davis, it has been a team effort as each class has contributed to creating our artwork. The angel has been named Joy after our value of the term.
