May Day and Coronation Celebration Friday 5th May 2023

As you know we have been preparing and are looking forward to our May Day celebration on Friday 5th May and this year, we are combining it with our celebration for King Charles III’s coronation.

Children should come to school at normal time and are invited to come to school in red, white and/or blue appropriate for the weather. ALL children must wear non-slip shoes, strapped or laced, as they will be skipping or running around the Maypole.

Parents and careers are invited to join our celebration which will start at 11:00am. Parents will be admitted to the playground through the small car park gate at 10:45am. Please note that this gate will be locked once the children are on the playground for an 11:00am start.

We also invite you to bring a picnic to enjoy with your child during their lunch break. More information can be found in the letter sent home.

We are very much looking forward to this event as are the children and do hope to see you there.

We have also begun to create our Coronation scene for the palace!

Year 1 News

Year 1 have been looking at a range of animal themed artwork. We talked about the similarities and differences between the pictures and discussed which ones were our favourite. We then used sketching pencils and chalks to create our own pictures using the same style. We have continued to explore colour mixing and put this into practise creating tiger paintings using the primary colours and mixing our own shades or orange and green. Well done Rabbits!  More photos

Year 2 have had a super first few weeks of summer term with lots of new units being introduced. In art this half term we are working on a still life unit. We started off the lesson by exploring our own Monksmoor gallery in the corridors to see existing examples of still life art and learn about the styles of different artists.

The children (and adults) certainly got their steps in on Wednesday with a visit to Daventry Museum. The children had a great time and were a credit to the school! They designed Roman coins, completed an archaeological dig and completed a quiz by exploring a cabinet of Stone Age artefacts! This was a great way to start off our new topic as well as being a great retrieval opportunity for our Roman topic.  Photo gallery

Forest School News

Key Stage 2 have been focusing on fire in their Forest School sessions. As well as the normal fun, games and activities some children in Year 3 enjoyed using a flint and steel independently to create a spark which could then be used to light a cotton wool ball or 'fairy fire'.

Year 4 took their skills further by working in groups to lay an effective fire.  Find out more here
