We have marked the beginning of advent in Nursery by retelling the story of the first Christmas, using our traditional wooden crib scene. The children have learned the names of each special person and practiced using the key vocabulary such as stable, crib, Nativity and census. More photos

Last session, the Reception children discovered the "slippy-slidy" mud slide and slid down it with glee! We spotted signs of Autumn including silvery spiderwebs and marvelled at the many different colours of leaves. Some of the children used them to make a leaf hedgehog.

The Year Ones finished making their cookie necklaces along with Autumn inspired crafts including conker bracelets and Autumn mobiles. They leaf rubbings and rainbows using the many different coloured leaves and also enjoyed some fun sliding down the mud slide!

Year 1 had a great trip to the National Space Centre last Thursday. The children enjoyed looking at all the space costumes and we were excited to see the one Neil Armstrong wore for his mission to the moon. Our favourite part was watching the fascinating show in the Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium.

On 4th December, Year 2 had a fun-filled trip to Northampton Town Football Club. This coincided with our learning about Walter Tull this term. We were lucky to have a tour of the stadium including the changing rooms, tunnel and dugout, where lots of us pulled our best "football manager" poses!

Badger Class enjoyed a visit to BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Hindu Temple in Neasden, London. This was a huge opportunity for us to enrich our RE learning on Hinduism. As part of our visit we explored the Hindu Temple through presentations, exhibitions and a tour.

Year 4 had a wonderful visit to the Christmas Interactive at Daventry Methodist Church this week, where we were guided around a re-enactment of the Christmas story. The children met Mary after she was told the wonderful news that she is to give birth to the Son of God. They travelled to the hills above Bethlehem and met the shepherds tending their flock, and heard how an angel appeared to them to share the news of the birth of baby Jesus. The children met one of the Wise men as they followed the star to the manager. Finally, we talked with the Inn Keeper who provided shelter to Mary and Joseph. We then met baby Jesus in the manger and sang ‘We Three Kings!’

On Friday afternoon, the children put on a wonderful String Concert to parents, showcasing their talent playing the violin and the cello. The children have thoroughly enjoyed learning and further developing their music skills in playing these instruments each week, and we would like to say a big thank you to Mrs Cliff for teaching us! Well done Year 4, we are so very proud of you!

Dragonflies had an unforgettable day at the Space Centre in Leicester. They were amazed by the size of the two towering rockets and fascinated by the cramped living conditions astronauts experience inside them. The children explored the interactive displays before being completely mesmerised by a 360° planetarium experience that showcased an astronaut’s journey to space.
Their behaviour was exemplary throughout the trip, and they truly shone, displaying all of our SHINE qualities. The trip was filled with awe and wonder, with plenty of "wow" moments. Of course, no school trip would be complete without a visit to the gift shop, which was an exciting highlight for everyone!

Years 5 and 6: Bikeability
|
|
Bikeability Success
Some of our children in Years 5 and 6 had the fantastic opportunity to participate in Bikeability training, where they learned how to ride safely on the roads surrounding the school. As they worked towards their Level 1 and 2 awards, they developed essential skills such as:
-
Understanding road safety rules, including positioning and signalling.
-
Identifying potential hazards and making safe decisions.
-
Practising safe starts and stops at junctions and roundabouts.
-
Building confidence riding in traffic and navigating quieter roads.
The children embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and demonstrated excellent focus and determination. These valuable skills will help them stay safe while enjoying the freedom of cycling. Well done to all who took part!

Our School Council visits Daventry Town Council
|
|
Last week our School Council visited the Town Council and Museum in New Street and were treated to a wonderfully informative and enjoyable morning learning all about how things work in the council chambers. Many thanks to Daventry Town Council for hosting us and for making such a warm fuss of the children - we all felt very welcome.

This past month we have welcomed two new members of staff to our Monksmoor family.
Mr Michael Higham has joined us as site supervisor. He has been kept very busy looking after our school site and helping staff with various projects.
Miss Amy Holloway-Smith has also been kept busy as our new Administrator. There are lots of names to learn and faces to recognise.
We wish them both success as they settle into their new roles.

Coats 4 Kids Project - Holy Cross Church
This will be the third year we have run it and so far, it has been a great success in providing winter coats, shoes and other garments to Primary school children in and around Daventry. So far, the scheme has been generously supported with individual donations and donations from Daventry Rotary Club and local businesses.
This year we would like to extend an invitation to the Secondary schools in Daventry to take part in the scheme.
Our aim is to serve our community and to help provide a better, caring environment for ALL children.
If you are interested in making a donation to the Coats 4 Kids Scheme you can do so using this link to the Holy Cross Church website: https://www.holycrosschurchdaventry.org.uk/coatsforkids.htm
