The last week of term has seen Nursery enjoying the milder weather and spending plenty of time outside - we've even been down to the field for some winter treks in our boots and coats. We have sung Jingle Bells every day and have done an awesome job of learning and retelling the main parts of the Nativity story.

In year 1 we have been making moving story books in Design and Technology. We made them based around the book ‘Rapunzel’. We made the background pages and then made sliders to enable the characters to move across the page.

Squirrels have had a lovely end to the term. The last couple of weeks have been filled with colour, crafts and Christmas. We have created calendars, Christmas cards and sewing projects. We've also been learning about cooking and nutrition and enjoyed tasting different combinations of new foods ready to make our own wraps in January! We have also enjoyed applying our understanding of materials to construct our own houses for the 3 little pigs and testing them out against the Big Bad Wolf! What a creative bunch!

We have enjoyed lots of Christmas activities over the last week, and we had lots of messy fun making our Christmas cards whilst listening to and singing Christmas songs! We thoroughly enjoyed the Christmas fair, organised and led by Year 5 and 6, and looked very Christmassy for Christmas jumper day! We have also loved reading our books given to us by the PTA which we excitedly opened as a whole school!

To finish our Geography topic about Brazil, we learnt a dance to celebrate the yearly festival of the Rio De Janeiro Carnival. This week we have also finished editing and writing our own wonderful stories of the ‘Leaf’, which has been our book stimulus for this half term, I am very proud of your amazing stories!

A message from Mrs Hynes: Wow, what a busy term it has been! I just wanted to take this opportunity to say how extremely proud I have been of you all Year 4. You have been an absolute joy to teach, and I have so many wonderful memories of the last term with you that I will cherish forever. You have all been absolute stars, working incredibly hard, with lots of smiles and enthusiasm, always trying your best, showing resilience and never giving up! I am immensely proud to pass you all onto Mr Wyness who I know is so looking forward to being your new teacher in January. I will, of course, continue to pop in and see you all! Thank you also to all the parents for your support. It is very much appreciated. Wishing you all a very happy Christmas.

Last week year 5 class went to a ‘Dodgeball Festival’ at the Leisure Centre in Daventry. They rotated around different activities, practising the skills needed for dodgeball. They then finished with some games against different schools - many of which they won.

Reception were inspired by the story of Leaf Man and made their own Leaf Men transient art pieces using natural materials. Identifying leaves was a popular activity and they found holly, silver birch, oak leaves and many more. They enjoyed finding Christmas characters and elf doors as well as making their wooden cookie Santa decorations. The Acrons were lucky enough to spot a frog camouflaged in the grass!

They enjoyed doing some Christmas themed activities in Forest School, including elf door hunts and Olivia H even made up her own Christmas themed version of Hide and Seek which the Sycamores loved playing!

Update from the Year 4: Following our recent visit to the Christmas interactive at the Methodist Church in Daventry, we received a photo of the gifts they received for the Daventry Area Baby Project. They wanted to say thank you again as it was a tremendous effort from the Daventry schools and the contribution from Monksmoor was very generous indeed - thank you !! On behalf of CTiD, they would also like to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and New Year.

In a heartwarming display of collaboration and community spirit, Rico-Scapes, renowned play park installers, came to the aid of site supervisor Michael Higham. The team graciously assisted Michael in not only moving an impressive three tonnes of hardcore and sharp sand, essential for his latest project—a new artificial grass installation but provided Michael with a Wacker plate, which is instrumental in compacting the sand. Michael expressed his gratitude, stating, "I couldn't have done it without the help of the Rico-Scapes team. Their willingness to step in not only made my job easier but also highlights how important teamwork is in bringing community projects to life.

Coats 4 Kids Project - Holy Cross Church
This will be the third year we have run it and so far, it has been a great success in providing winter coats, shoes and other garments to Primary school children in and around Daventry. So far, the scheme has been generously supported with individual donations and donations from Daventry Rotary Club and local businesses.
This year we would like to extend an invitation to the Secondary schools in Daventry to take part in the scheme.
Our aim is to serve our community and to help provide a better, caring environment for ALL children.
If you are interested in making a donation to the Coats 4 Kids Scheme you can do so using this link to the Holy Cross Church website: https://www.holycrosschurchdaventry.org.uk/coatsforkids.htm
