The Easter story has inspired some beautiful artwork in Nursery this week as the children have learned the key elements of Holy Week. They have also used the natural world to create some decorated wooden crosses, threading coloured wool using their fine motor skills and we have been making models of Jesus' tombs using junk modelling and Lego blocks.

At the end of last term the children in Nursery set off on the coach for a visit to Gallone's Ice Cream Parlour in Northampton. We were made to feel very welcome and the highlight for all the children was getting to go up to the counter to order an ice cream cone to enjoy. It was a super trip out.

Thank you to our friends from the Happy@Home team who joined us at school on Friday 15th March for our Red Nose Day Talent Show. It is always such a pleasure to welcome guests from the community into school and we look forward to seeing them back again in the summer term.

We have been busy making London taxis in Year 1. We followed a design brief when making the taxis and chose the tools and materials we would like to use. Once they were built we tried pushing them down a ramp to see how well the wheels and axles worked.

Year 2 were so lucky they had not one but TWO exciting trips last week! We visited both Daventry Methodist Church and Holy Cross Church to complete lots of learning and activities about Easter. Our RE learning this term came in handy and members of both churches were really impressed by our level of understanding! A big thank you to both churches for hosting us, we really enjoyed ourselves. In PSHE we were reflecting on 'No one wants to live in a box! Being HeartSmart means not putting people in boxes and involves taking the time to get to know them, find out what they like, celebrate the things that unite us and also the things that are different.' We read about different people and drew how we felt this person would look. We have been learning about Mosaics and during the last two weeks we made our Mosaics. We discovered grouting tiles is quite a messy job! Find out more here

To bring our topic on Ancient Civilisations to a close, Year 4 enjoyed an Ancient Egyptian workshop hosted by Historic Workshops. They were taught to mummify a body to ensure its safe passage to the afterlife, learnt about and handled replica artefacts and worked as a team to plan an Ancient Egyptian city and see how it fared in the face of random world events. We did it! The first Year 5 Go Kart Club managed to strip a whole Go-Kart to the bare chassis and rebuild it again in a matter of weeks.
Mrs Towers was so impressed with how the children worked in each session; they were proactive, enthusiastic and didn't give up when things were a little tricky. This week their learning and efforts were rewarded with the first ever Monksmoor Park track day!
The children and their parents took the newly built kart to Stretton Circuit to test it out. Each child had the opportunity to take the kart round the track several times in a private session. There were lots of nerves, even more excitement and for some, the discovery of a passion for racing! Year 5 Go Kart gallery

At the end of term, the children had the opportunity to experience lots of Easter-themed activities. There were egg hunts, bunny hunts, searching for signs of spring, egg fitness trails, planting some 'smelly wellies' with herbs and toasting marshmallows to make delicious smores. All of this alongside the usual Forest School fun and learning some new games involving observation, teamwork and the use of echolocation. Photo gallery
We look forward to hearing about the signs of spring you might have spotted during the Easter holidays.

Red Nose Day for Comic Relief
|
|
On Red Nose Day, together we raised £281 for Comic Relief. We held a non-uniform day and a Talent Show that was as super as the Comic Relief TV Show that evening!
Two acts from each class took part in the Grand Final in front of the whole school and a panel of selected judges including the Mayor of Daventry. We also had a number of adults show us their special skills too! We had a lot of fun!

Thank you to Mrs Davies from the England Cheerleading Squad for sharing her talent and teaching us some moves. Thank you to our judges, our Happy@Home guests and our wonderful audience of the Monksmoor Park children who respectfully watched, enjoyed and encouraged all the competition entrants.
