The Monksmoor Park staff and children really got into the spirit of Red Nose Day yesterday by donning funny faces, silly hair and red noses. We worked in teams and had lots of fun throughout the day as we entered our three-legged races.
The whole school gathered to watch the staff three-legged race in the afternoon. There is even a video, however we're awaiting permissions to share it, perhaps this will come on Monday when all the adults have recovered! See our photo gallery for a few snippets we can share.
If you wanted to, but forgot to donate there's still a little bit of time to use our JustGiving page: https://bit.ly/MMPrednoseday

Our focus story this week has been 'Jack and The Beanstalk' and the children have enjoyed retelling it, using actions and props. In PE, we use Get Set 4 PE and this week the children have been learning to follow some instructions to take part in a transport dance using the actions of different vehicles as well as joining in with an alternate version of Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes. This week Hedgehogs have been creating some very special items for Mothering Sunday.
We have been impressed by their developing knowledge about spring and contrasting seasons. They also created a town using their Paul Klee designs and talked about its impact.

Year 1 have finished working on their taxis by making the wheels and axles. They reviewed their plans to see which style of axle they had selected before making it. Then they used either pegs, sellotape, cardboard brackets or pre-made holes in the chassis to put the rods through. The children enjoyed testing their taxis to see how they moved. Next they will evaluate them and make improvements.

We have had a fun week in Year 2! In maths we have moved on to measure so have been learning how to measure lines and objects using centimetres and metres. I wonder what you can measure at home?
In English, we have had lots of fun with “The Day the Crayons Quit” and have now moved on to looking at instructions. To start things off we followed a set of instructions to make an apple car! Read more

Badgers have been super scientists this British Science Week. They have been looking at the force of friction and testing different surfaces using newton metres. In PE, we had a match to end our netball unit. The children worked well together and really enjoyed the games!

Our topic lessons have seen us gain a better understanding of the ancient Egyptian societies, and we found out how Howard Carter analysed artefacts from Tutankhamun’s tomb to draw conclusions about his life.
In PE, we have started to develop our understanding of the face paced game of Handball. Find out more

Year 3 were very excited to see a robin visiting one of our new 'milk bottle' bird feeders during their session this week. A group of children sat very patiently to observe it and were interested in how it darted from the bushes to the feeder. We also spotted a nest in the hedge which we will keep a close eye on! On Friday two Key Stage 2 teams set out for an hour of orienteering with Northamptonshire Sport. It involved team challenges, finding markers and cracking the code.
This took place on the same day as our Funny Face and Silly Hair Red Nose Day fundraiser! Face paint and coloured hair were not compulsory tools to orienteer, although they look good! More photos
