Year 4 - Mechanical Advantages
Inspired by the work of Howard Carter from last week, Woodpeckers have been talking about how the Egyptians might have built their tombs and monuments. With this in mind we experimented with gears, pulleys and levers to see if we could develop an understanding of how they can be used to give us a ‘mechanical advantage’ to lift a heavier weight. The class set about investigating how each type of system worked, before discussing the physics involved.
In English, we have started looking at a new unit of poetry. Based on the poem ‘I rise’ we have begun to write our own version using the topic of Bullying as basis to our different verses.
Our Handball skills are developing nicely with this week’s lessons focusing on shooting at a target for precise scoring.
