Year 5 study architecture
Dragonflies have enjoyed a wide range of activities over the past weeks; from investigating whether a solid is soluble or not by carrying out a scientific investigation of solutes and solutions. From this we were able to categorise materials based on their properties. In DT we have enjoyed looking at the different styles of architecture developed by the Ancient Greeks and carry out some independent research into the famous philosophers of the time by accessing third-party sources and creating either a digital document or presentation with our findings.
In English, we have started a new unit of work, with our driver text still being based on the fascinating book “Where We Once Stood”. The focus of our new work is to understand the structure and language of a formal report. In maths we have continued to develop our understanding of fractions and have used this to compare them to decimals. With this link developing we turned our attention to identifying the place value of digits to three decimal points and can now compare and order numbers across a wide range of values.
In RE we have begun to look at trying to develop a response to the question “What did Jesus do to save human beings?” and in PE we return to skills involved in playing invasion games, in particular the skills and rules of netball.
