Year 5 - Databases, deity and defending
Dragonflies have focused their maths learning on understanding decimal numbers, percentages and how these relate to their knowledge about fractions and place value. Using parts of a whole we have grown to understand that we can show these using the three different aforementioned formats and that if we can find a fraction with a denominator of ten or hundred this will make our work even easier.
In computing we have built flat-file databases and been introduced to the different terms used when talking about the storage and retrieval of datasets. Our artwork has also made use of digital technology where we used SketchUp, a 3D modelling tool, to build structures and think about how we could use these to build our very own ancient Greek pillars and buildings.
In PE we have learnt that the game of Netball is really, really fast and our teammates’ positions and movement can make or break our advantage when attacking or defending the different zone on the court.
In topic we investigated the twelve Olympian Gods and Goddesses and created our own versions of them indicating who was who based on the items they wore or held.
And finally we were lucky enough to have Mrs Hancox visit us for the morning to talk to us about the dangers of Carbon Monoxide (CO) and what we could do to ensure that we recognise the risk, symptoms of CO poisoning and how to seek help if we or a family member were in trouble.
