Platinum Jubilee Celebrations
On the last day of term, Thursday 26th May, the whole school celebrated the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. We were invited to wear 1950s inspired outfits to school to reflect the decade that the Queen was crowned in.
Nursery celebrated in tiaras and crowns they had made earlier in the week, and they enjoyed a special snack time.
Later, Reception through to Year 3 celebrated in a traditional Jubilee Street Party at lunchtime. The staff and Year 3 worked hard to decorate and furnish the hallway with one long table with place settings for over 100 children! Union flag bunting was hung the length of the corridor and every piece of furniture was decorated with red, white and blue balloons.
We started the meal by gathering round the table and we stayed standing for the National Anthem, we learned that this music is special and is unique to our country.
The children shared plates of food that our school families kindly sent in from home. Like a family meal, the children (supported by staff) enjoyed passing plates to those near them, and we all witnessed a lot of sharing and caring for others!
There was music while we ate and the fun continued afterwards with a whole school playtime on the school field.
In the afternoon we all gathered together in the corridor and watched a video about the Queen and learned more about the Platinum Jubilee celebrating the Queen's 70-year reign and that this is a momentous occasion.
It really was a wonderful Monksmoor Park event that we hope the children will remember fondly for a very long time.
