Food, glorious Forest School Food!
The children have had the opportunity to do so many different activities within their recent Forest School sessions and we have certainly had the full range of weather! There has been a variety of cooking going on from the thrill of observing popcorn kernels exploding into the popcorn we recognise, to marshmallows being toasted for smores and our first try at using the hanging tripod grill to make toast. The snacks definitely taste better outside when you've made them yourself!
The art of Hapa Zome has created some beautiful results as there are such a variety of colours to be found on site. We are getting better with our aim and at keeping our fingers out of the way of the rubber mallets. The children in Year 5 had the chance to practise their knots by making a macramé keyring.
My favourite thing to see has been the teamwork, support and encouragement which has been in evidence when the children work together to create an obstacle course. It is fantastic to see how they help each other and celebrate everyone's achievements as the obstacles get increasingly elaborate!! One of the Year 4 children decided to use one of our den building sheets as the base for a 'board game' which involved rolling balls to see who could get closest to the central stone marker. He then asked some of his friends to try it out and explained the rules. The group spent ages playing the game and there was lots of laughter as well as careful measuring to see which ball was closest at times!
