Year 3 eat seasonally
Year 3 has had a busy couple of weeks.
In design and technology we are learning about the advantages of eating seasonally. We also recapped knife skills and chopped up some vegetables and made a dip to eat with them. We examined the packaging of the vegetables that we used and discovered that they were all imported from other countries as they are not yet in season in the UK. Year 3 enjoyed trying the vegetables and the dip and made posters to persuade people to eat seasonally.
In English writing we have been focusing on a book called 'Jemmy Button'. This week we started to plan letter writing and we considered how Jemmy’s family were coping without him on the island. We worked in groups thinking about the things that they would be doing on the island such as chasing insects, making a fire, collecting exotic fruit and climbing trees. We presented our thoughts through drama freeze framing.
In art we have been learning about prehistoric pots, particularly Bell Beaker Pottery. We have been considering different styles and patterns that would have been applied and used different things such as tin foil, pencils, brushes and nets to design the outside of our pots.
