Year 4 - Mamma Mia
The children have settled wonderfully into Year 4 with lots of smiles and such enthusiasm! They have shown some really lovely ‘shining’ examples of friendship, our value for this half-term, especially in PE demonstrating fantastic partner work, supporting their friend with balance and ball skills. Ask your child to show you!
Year 4 have started their drawing unit in art and design by exploring the range of tones that can be created using different grades of pencil. We explored what is an effective grip for shading and how that differs from a pencil grip for writing. We then created 3D shapes from paper strips and learned how to make our drawings of their shapes look 3D by using different tones. This was tricky but everyone demonstrated the Monksmoor Shine value of “never give up”.
The children have enthusiastically immersed themselves in the picture book of the story of ‘The Whale’, identifying and using some amazing adjectives, noun phrases, keywords and fronted adverbials in their writing. We have also begun listening to, clapping and stamping the rhythm, and learning the song ‘Mamma Mia’ by ABBA, which has been great fun!… you may hear your child singing this at home!
